The Boudoir (part 1)

Well my mom aka GG (her newly adopted moniker since becoming a Great Gramma) is helping me get my bedroom painted.  Yesterday we were supposed to start and because my schedule has been sort of crazy this week I had to run out to a job I"m working on in the morning and when I got back shortly before noon she had the 3/4's done!  What a girl!!

However, when I walked in I was a little surprised at how the color looked up on the walls.  I loved the sample but over the whole surface my "Gray Beige" took on a sort of pinky, lavender look.  Ick.  I really didin't know if it was going to work or not. 

Well by this morning I knew it wasn't going to work.  So when my mom got here this moring we talked about what to do.  We really needed to finish it today.  I remembered I had bought a gallon of a deep gray "Shaken Not Stirred" for the pantry so I grabbed it and added a 1/3 of a gallon of pure white to it to tone it down.  

Perfect!

Away we went covering over all her hard work, but so worth it.  It's now a beautiful soft gray.

I love it!!

It looks really blue in the photo, (I am sooooo not a photographer) but it's not it's really a nice gray. I taped off the panels where I'm going to apply a metallic plaster with a french panel design.  You can see the one over the bathtub is ready to go. 

Here's my first sample for the panels.  The blue area will definitely be toned down with a glaze.  I want it more "dirty" looking.   And I think I might alter the pattern a little.  This is the wall color over the metallic plaster with a gray glaze on the second layer of the stencil.  I love the Damask look, it sort of fades in and out as you walk around the room but I'm just not sure I love it.  I may make it a little more pronounced with a solid color.

I'm putting several panels around the room.  One behind the scale.

and 3 around the bed.  Boy it looks blue in this picture.  I've got to get better at pictures.

I'll start the panels this weekend.

The laundry room is slightly on the back burner.  My work has suddenly picked up (thank goodness!) so it's been really hectic here and we need the funds to finish it anyway so hopefully we will be framing it up next week.  In the meantime I've been moving a few things around and got out my hard working pigs.   So for now they're front and center on the island when you walk in the kitchen.

I just love these guys! 

Last weekend was filled with work at my in-law's ranch.  Cattle to take care of and steers to be made if you know what I mean.  Busy day and somewhat messy, (anyone who's done this knows that when cattle get into the shoot it scares the poop out of them.....Litteraly!!!!

This was little "Rico Suave's" first cattle day so he saw a lot! Including a big 4 foot gopher snake that came wandering through as we were trying to get a mama cow into the shoot.

But as always, I'm working on something until we can actually move foward on a project.  The Pantry has been driving me crazy and I've been searching high and low for the perfect gray.  I decided to paint the walls gray with a white damask pattern so finding just the right gray to go with the black hutch was making me crazy.  One of my favorite blogs, a perfect gray, gives a nice list of grays but they're Benjamin Moore colors and our local store just  closed so I'm stuck with a limited selection.  I kept bringing home sample after sample.  I felt like the Goldie Locks of gray.  This one's too blue, this one's too brown, this one's too blah.........then I struck gold! Or should I say Gray!  Valspar had a beautiful Gray and when I saw the name I fell in love, "Shaken not stirred".  How could I resist?  I also found the right color for the master bedroom walls.  I couldn't decide between gray or taupe and then I found "Gray Beige", nuff said.

I also finally came up with the perfect finish for my closets in the master bedroom.  Old with a little Parisian blue.  Love it!

I'm also starting our master bathroom shower this week.  This will be given the look of faux stone blocks.  Yep it's going to be a busy week.

Not that I don't love my bathtub, but it's going to be so nice to finally have a working shower again. So yes I'm a little scattered with many different projects in the wings and 3 jobs to do this week, but I'm happy with any progress no matter how small.
